BOSTON – August 24, 2026 – Blue Cross Blue Shield of Massachusetts (Blue Cross) will issue dental premium rebates to eligible individuals and employers by the end of August 2026.
Why it matters: Massachusetts law requires dental insurers to spend at least 83% of collected premiums directly on patient care and quality improvements. Because dental care spending for insured dental policies fell below this threshold in 2025, Blue Cross is returning the difference to its customers.
How it works:
- The timeline: Rebates will be distributed by August 30, 2026.
- The delivery: Eligible customers will receive their rebate either as an electronic refund, invoice credit or check. Approximately 84,000 Blue Cross individual policyholders and 30,000 employer policyholders will receive rebates totaling slightly more than $6 million.
- The notification: Eligible individuals and employer groups will receive a letter informing them that they will receive a rebate. Not all members are eligible.
What we’re saying: "Our goal is always to provide high-quality, comprehensive dental coverage at the best possible value. These rebates reflect our ongoing commitment to transparency, affordability, and meeting the standards set by the Commonwealth," said Chief Financial Officer Ruby Kam.
