Francis X. Callahan, Jr.
Frank was elected to the Blue Cross Blue Shield of Massachusetts Board in 2015. As a director, he helps set the company’s strategy and overall direction. Within a highly competitive and highly regulated business environment, the board oversees and governs BCBSMA's operations, which includes the provision of health coverage to individuals and public and private employers. Frank serves as chair of the board’s corporate contributions committee, as vice chair of the health care quality and affordability committee and serves as a member of the audit committee and the governance committee.
Frank has served as the president of the Massachusetts Building Trades Council since 2007. He began his career in the labor movement with the Pioneer Valley Building and Construction Trades Council. He was appointed legislative director for the Massachusetts Building Trades Council in 1996. He is a member of the International Union of Painters & Allied Trades Local 939.
Frank is Executive Vice President of the Massachusetts AFL-CIO, delegate to the Greater Boston Central Labor Council, and serves on the boards of directors of the Northeast Center for Tradeswomen's Equity, Friends For Children and The Labor Guild.
Frank earned his Master of Science in labor studies from the University of Massachusetts, Amherst, and his Bachelor of Arts degree in economics and political science from Providence College.
