Manuel A. Lopes
Manuel A. Lopes was elected to the Blue Cross Blue Shield of Massachusetts Board in 2017. As a director, he helps set the company’s strategy and overall direction. Within a highly competitive and highly regulated business environment, the board oversees and governs BCBSMA's operations, which includes the provision of health coverage to individuals and public and private employers. Manny serves on the Board’s Audit Committee and Health Care Quality and Affordability Committee.
Manny has had several positions since joining the East Boston Neighborhood Health Center (EBNHC) including roles in IT, human resources and operations. After a mid-career stint outside the health center during which he worked as a business consultant and project manager for Fortune 1,000 companies helping CEOs, CIOs, and CFOs redesign critical business processes, Manny rejoined EBNHC in 2004 as vice president and chief information officer.
In 2012, after selection by the board of directors, Manny became CEO. His breadth of experience at EBNHC provides him with an unparalleled understanding of the health center, the community, and the vital importance of providing high-quality health care to those the center serves.
Manny currently serves on many health care and government boards and committees. He is currently on the Boston Public Health Commission board, Massachusetts League of Community Health Centers executive board, Boston Medical Center’s board of trustees, Blue Cross Blue Shield of Massachusetts Foundation board of trustees and serves on its governance committee and its program review and grants committee. He also serves on the Metropolitan Beach Commission, Northeastern University MBA healthcare advisory board, as well as a member of the My Brother’s Keeper Boston advisory committee. Manny was also privileged to serve on the transition committees for Mayor Marty Walsh and Governor Charlie Baker.
Manny has a master’s degree in business administration from Northeastern University’s Graduate School of Business.
