Robert F. Meenan, M.D.
Robert F. Meenan, M.D. was elected to the Blue Cross Blue Shield of Massachusetts Board in 2004. As a Director, he helps set the company’s strategy and overall direction. Within a highly competitive and highly regulated business environment, the Board oversees and governs BCBSMA's operations, which includes the provision of health coverage to individuals and public and private employers. Bob is the Chair of the Board’s Human Resources Committee, Vice Chair of the Health Care Quality and Affordability Committee and serves on the Governance Committee.
Bob is President of Mary Christie Foundation. He served as Dean at Boston University School of Public Health from 1992 to 2014 and served as special assistant to Boston University’s President, Robert Brown, until his retirement in 2016. He served on the faculty of Boston University for 39 years and retired as Professor of Health Policy and Management in the School of Public Health and Professor of Medicine in the School of Medicine. He previously served as division head of the Division of Rheumatology in the School of Medicine and director of the Arthritis Clinic at Boston City Hospital.
Bob is a member of the American Society for Clinical Investigation, a past president of the American College of Rheumatology and a member of the Board of Trustees at the New England College of Optometry. He also serves as Vice Chair of the Board of the BCBSMA Foundation. He previously served as the Senior Vice Chair of the Arthritis Foundation.
Bob holds a BA in government from Harvard College, an MD from Boston University School of Medicine, an MPH in Health Administration and Planning from the University of California Berkeley and an MBA in Health Care Administration from Boston University School of Management. He trained in Internal Medicine at Boston City Hospital and in Rheumatology at the University of California San Francisco.
