BOSTON, Nov. 8, 2017 /PRNewswire-USNewswire/ -- Andrew Dreyfus, president and CEO of Blue Cross Blue Shield of Massachusetts, was honored today with the Building a Better Boston award by the UMass Boston Center for Collaborative Leadership. The award was established in 2012 to recognize an individual who is widely recognized for contributions advancing the Boston region through his or her work as a convener and collaborator.

Dreyfus has long been committed to helping expand access to health care for Massachusetts residents. He served as founding president of the Blue Cross Blue Shield of Massachusetts Foundation, where he developed the "Roadmap to Coverage," a multi-year policy initiative that was instrumental in the passage of the Commonwealth's landmark 2006 health reform law. He also led the development of Blue Cross' innovative payment approach, called the Alternative Quality Contract, which rewards doctors and hospitals for delivering high-quality patient care and helping to keep members healthy. The model fosters shared responsibility for both improving care and moderating the increasing costs of health care. Dreyfus is also a founding member of the Massachusetts Coalition for Serious Illness Care, which brings together individuals and organizations committed to systematically improving care for serious illness. He has been a strong advocate for bipartisanship in improving the Affordable Care Act and working to stem the tide of opioid addiction. In addition, Dreyfus serves on a number of nonprofit boards, in service to the organizations and the community.
